NBA Picks - East Finals

As we get closer to the NBA Finals, I am hoping to finally have some more plays. I have been undefeated so far in the playoffs, and tonight I look to continue my streak. Aren’t you glad I’m nice enough to share my winning ways?

Tonight’s game between Cleveland and Detroit should be a very tough, hard-fought game. The Cavaliers are looking to close out the Pistons and advance to the Finals. The Pistons meanwhile are looking to just stay alive and get the chance to play Game 7 back home in Detroit.

If this sounds familiar to some of you, that’s because this same scenario played out last year…Cavs up 3-2, coming home for Game 6. If you remember, it was the savvy Pistons who won Game 6 on the road, and then returned home to finish the job. This year though, things look a little different. Why? LeBron James, that’s why.

Bottom line here is that Cleveland is going to close this series out today. Detroit has had their time, and now it’s time for LeBron and co. to step up. I say they do it today. My money is going on the Cavs (-1.5) today. I would suggest doing the same with yours.

NBA Picks, Feb. 14th

I know it has been a while since I have posted NBA picks, but I have been on a sort of hiatus from basketball. I tried to follow it during the football season, but I just couldn’t. Football is simply too important to my bank account. That said, my record speaks for itself - no introductions are needed here. I have the winners and you want the winners. So let’s get right to it, shall we?

Game One: Chicago Bulls (29-24) at Charlotte Bobcats (18-33)

Not too much to say about this game. The Bobcats are a terrible team and should be 5-10 point underdogs in every game they play. The only time they aren’t, they win…or at least cover. I’m taking the Bobcats (+2) tonight as they look to put a hurtin’ on the Bulls.

Game Two: Washington Wizards (28-21) at Philadelphia 76ers (17-35)

Another easy game for the picking. The Wizards are a top team in the Eastern Conference, and should do very well in the playoffs if they can keep Agent Zero under control. The 76ers on the other hand, are one of the worst teams in basketball. That’s why this is such an easy game to pick! You have to take the 76ers (+1). Something is fishy here...and I’m going to catch the big one!

Game Three: Milwaukee Bucks (19-33) at Boston Celtics (12-38)

The only reason I called the 76ers one of the worst teams in basketball, is because of the Boston Celtics. They are the worst team in basketball. They have lost 18 straight games! You would think a team of NBA players could fall into a win over that stretch, not this team though. That is why, after seeing them FAVORED by over 5 points, I’m betting the Celtics break that streak tonight. My money is on Boston (-5.5) tonight.

Game Four: Sacramento Kings (22-28) at New Orleans Hornets (24-28)

These two teams have almost identical records. Considering their near mirror wins/loss status, the line for this game should not be as high as it is. Bottom line, I think the folks in Vegas are trying to lure you in. The Kings lost last night in overtime, and I’m thinking they are just too tired to play another tough game on the road. The smart money tonight is on the Hornets (-6).

NBA Picks, 11/29/06

No introductions are needed here. I have the winners and you want the winners. I am 5-2 on the NBA season so far, and tonight I look to improve that even more. So let’s dispense with the small talk and get right to it, shall we?







Game One: First game tonight takes us to Phoenix where the Suns (7-6) play host to the Rockets (10-4) . Both teams come into tonight’s game riding four game win streaks. Houston has been on a terrible run against Phoenix though, losing all three games last season by an average of 21 points. So who do we take tonight? That’s right, the Rockets (+7.5).

Game Two: Next game on the list has the Magic (11-4) visiting the Sonics (6-9) in Seattle. The Magic are coming off a big win Monday night in Utah, but look ripe for an upset tonight. I love a bad team favored at home against a good team. I’m taking the Sonics (-2.5) and you should too.

Game Three: Last game on the program for this evening is actually not an NBA game. That’s right folks, for the first time ever, yours truly is putting an NCAA game on his picks list. The ACC/Big Ten Challenge has had many great match-ups in the past. Tonight’s game is between the Buckeyes (6-0) of Ohio St. and the Tar Heels (4-1) of UNC. I know OSU has a very talented team this year, but they don’t seem to be much of a match for North Carolina in this tough road game. Take UNC (-7.5) tonight and just remember who told you to do it.

NBA Picks, 11/17/06

No introductions are needed here. I have the winners and you want the winners. So far this NBA season I’m 5-1 and I’m not stopping anytime soon. Only one pick tonight, but it’s a good one. So let’s dispense with the small talk and get right to it, shall we?

The Game: Tonight, the Dallas Mavericks are paying a visit to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. The Mavs, after starting the season 0-4, are currently riding a three game winning streak and look to make it four in a row this evening. The Grizzlies come into tonight’s game with only one win on the season. Don’t count Memphis out just yet though. Last year, on their way to the NBA Finals, the Mavericks swept the Grizzlies out of the playoffs, making it 12 straight postseason losses for Memphis. How do you think the Grizzlies feel about that? My bet is that they are not too pleased and play their hearts out tonight. I’m putting my money on Memphis (+5) and if you’re smart, you’ll do the same.

NBA Picks, 11/4/06

No introductions are needed here. So far this season, I’m 4-2 in the NBA overall and 2-1 with my online picks. Basically, I have the winners, and you want the winners. So let’s dispense with the small talk and get right to it, shall we?

Game One: The Cavs and one Lebron James travel to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats tonight. Cleveland is favored by 4 points in this one, which would tell most people to take the Cavs. As well all know though, I’m not most people. I’m taking the Bobcats (+4) tonight, and you should too.

Game Two: Next game on the list takes us to Houston where the Rockets will be playing host to their instate rivals, the Dallas Mavericks. Both teams started off the season with a loss, but it’s the Rockets, not the Mavs, that I expect to bounce back tonight. Let’s ride the Rockets (+2) at home.

Game Three: Last up, we have the T-wolves in Portland tonight to play the Blazers. Zach Randolph had a great season opener the other night, and I think this is the season he lives up to his full potential. Take the Blazers (+3) at home tonight, you can thank me tomorrow.

NBA Picks, 11/3/06

Welcome my friends, to another season of the NBA. I know, most of you probably don’t even watch it. Actually, you probably don’t even care if the league crumbles and dies. I used to be that way too, but then I discovered that I had an uncanny ability to pick NBA winners. You think that it’s too good to be true? Well just step up to the free throw line, and we’ll knock ‘em down together.

Over the following months, I will be picking the winners to make myself some money. So why am I sharing my winners with you? Well, I guess you could say it’s because I’m a man of the people and love helping out my fellow humans. However, I am not a rich man (as far as the government knows anyhow); I can't afford to line your pockets out of my own accounts. So, instead, I provide you with the philanthropy of information. My plan is to give you the winners that I play, so we can make our money together.

You may have already checked my football column that comes out every Friday night, but the schedule for this NBA column will be a bit more erratic. NBA games are played almost every night, but I’m not going to have picks every night. So if you REALLY want those winners, you are going to have to check back on this site every day to make sure you don’t miss out.

Now on to the games…

Game One: My first posted pick of the NBA season (already 2-1, just not online) is the Boston Celtics (+2) at home against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons lost a major cog in their defensive squad when Big Ben Wallace headed to Chicago. The Celtics meanwhile, have done nothing but improve their team with young talent. Look for the Boys from Beantown to show those Motor City Men a thing or two about the fast break.

Game Two: Second on the list tonight has the previously mentioned Chicago Bulls, along with newly acquired Ben Wallace, playing host to the Kings from Sacramento. Chicago opened the season well by blowing out the reigning champs in Miami, but they proceeded to fall apart the next night at the hands of those upstarts from Orlando. Too much partying in Miami the night before you ask? Somehow, I don’t think so. I see it more as a sign of the inconsistency that will plague the this season, and tonight will be one of the downers. Take the Kings (+5.5), and live like royalty.

Game Three: My final pick this evening takes us to the desert where the Utah Jazz have traveled to face the burning Suns in Phoenix. Phoenix has played two games already (1-1) and, in front of the home crowd tonight, look to make it 2-1. Utah comes to town as a victor in its only game so far this season. Obviously, only one team can come out on top, but that doesn’t mean we cannot profit. I like Phoenix to win the game, but take Utah (+6.5) to keep it close at the end.
